Is abdominal hernia surgery risky? And how long do i have to be out of work?
MY HUSBAND HAS HAD AN ABDOMINAL HERNIA FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW AND IT IS STARTING TO HURT HIM VERY BADLY. HE WENT TO THE DOCTORS AND THEY SAID THEY NEED EXRAYS AND ALL THESE TESTS BUT HE WILL NEED SURGERY... DOES THE SURGERY AFFECT YOUR STOMACH MUSCLES OR ANY OTHER PART OF YOUR BODY FROM WORKING CORRECTLY. ( HE IS 28)... HOW LONG WILL HE HAVE TO BE OUT OF WORK IF HE DOES GET THE SURGERY? IS THERE ANY OTHER WAY TO TREAT A HERNIS WITH OUT SURGERY?
Sorry, but there is no other way to fix a hernia. I guess you know what a hernia is. And they only get worse with time, that is why its bothering him.
Don't put off the surgery as it will only take longer to recover because his level of surgery will be greater than if he does it now.
Plus the pain he is experiencing is telling him something is wrong.
Get it fixed. He is young so recovery won't be long, but that depends on him and how much he is up and about afterwards which is really important after surgery to prevent blood clots from forming.

Hernia is a general term used to describe a bulge or protrusion of an organ through the muscle or structure that contains normally.
There are many types of hernias. The best known are those of the type that occur in the abdomen, in which part of the intestines protruding through the abdominal wall. This can happen in different areas and, depending on the location, hernia is given a different name.

A ventral hernia is also called incisional hernia because it usually occurs as an abdominal mass, on the site of an old surgical scar. It is caused by thinning or extension of the scar, and occurs more frequently in people who are overweight or pregnant.

With a hiatal hernia, the stomach upward bulges in the muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen (diaphragm). This type of hernia occurs more often in women than men and it is treated differently from other types of hernias.
