Why does the bottle of saw palmetto say intended for use by men only?
I have read many positive effects for women. Are there specific doses or extracts for men and women?
I realize women wouldn't benefit from prostate health obviously, just wondering if it is safe for women.
Saw palmetto interferes with the conversion of steroid hormones - specifically, it interferes with the testosterone and estrogen pathways (which are inter-connected.) That's the mechanism of action for using Saw palmetto to treat benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and/or male pattern baldness.
For women who have no difficulties with hormonal balance (especially with normal testosterone and estrogen levels), this herb can CAUSE imbalance.
It's safe for use in women, but like all drugs (herbal and otherwise) it must be properly applied!
