What is the shelf-life of darkroom chemicals?

I am going to do some black and white film developing at home and I was wondering, after I've mixed my solution of chemicals, how long can I store them in the containers before using them?

Say the fixer for example they say its reusable, but for how long can I keep it? And what about mixed developer, must it be used immediately or will it hold for a few days or even weeks? Thanks.

Mixed and ready to use developer, from a few weeks to a couple months, tops....!

However, we have stock solutions and working solutions here. Stock solutions are the raw developer, 1 full gallon or 1 full quart, depending on what you mix. Almost ALL developers recommend a dilution with water to make a working solution. 1:2 or 1:3 with developer / water...

Stop bath and fixer are used full strength per mixing instructions and require do dilutions to use.

Air, heat and light degrade the developer quicker than anything. The acids in the stop bath and fixer just need GOOD air tight caps. Once developer goes dark straw yellow like beer (or darker...) it's history..!

I give my chemicals the sniff test. If you have been in a darkroom long enuf you know what I mean. Bad or depleted developer smells -bad - while acetic acid in the stop bath looses it's bite to the nose as does the fixer. When they go flat or bad, they just stop smelling much of anything (and if your stop bath is the indicator kind, it goes blue and purple).

Only mix what you have film to use.... because the rest WILL go to waste..

How Can you remove the U.V. (invisible writing) on stamps?

I know it's illeagle and I'm not saying that I'm gonna try it, (I'm not saying I'm not gonna). But when you get a letter in the mail and the stamps look like they weren't cancelled to the human-eye they look reusable. There is actually a special ink that can only be seen in a black magic or purple light etc. . How can you remove it???

p.s. If anyone has reused stamps with no visible marks on them there is a chance that it will be sent back but most likely they will throw it away.

Of course it's illegal. Just pay your 42c and be done with it. The stamp is really a receipt that you have paid for the privilege of having your item handled by the postal service. How do you expect them to operate if they don't get the right amount of money for the service they provide. You are always free to use another service, deliver it yourself, or use email. If you use the postal system, pay for it.
