Has anyone had a c-section already scheduled but gone into labour before hand?

Interested to hear stories about this happening to anyone. Whether you still ended up with the c-section or delivered naturally instead.

my best friend is measuring full term since 36.5 weeks (docs have said a big baby???). 3 different due dates of 11th jan(LMP date), 6th jan (7wk ul/s) and 1st jan(18wk ul/s) depending which ultrasound or period date you take. She is booked in for a caeser on the 2nd of January(because of previous caeser) but is thinking she might not make it that far because the doc keeps telling her that she could go at anytime because baby has been measuring full-term for the last 1.5 wks. She has been getting a lot of painful braxton hicks and back pain (not back labour pain) but hasn't had an internal to see if she is thinning or dilating at all so that isn't a guide.

Any stories and circumstances she might be able to relate to? She is happy to procede with a natural delivery if she does go into labour.

This could go either way. It all depends on what she is dilated to when she goes into the hospital.

If (for example) she is 7 cm dilated, her water is broken, and the baby's head is "right there" - the doctor may let her deliver vaginally. If, on the other hand, if she starts having hard contractions, her water doesn't break, she goes to the hospital and is only 3 cm dilated but contracting regularly, they will probably do a c-section.

But - it is really up to the physician - or at least the physician will give his advice. Some doctors are fine with VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean) some doctors won't do them even if the patient is completely dilated. There are so many variables that could happen - and it pretty much depends on how the baby is tolerating what is going on. AND - how SHE tolerates what is going on.

Just remember - any sudden, sharp CONSTANT pain - she needs to go to the hospital IMMEDIATELY. It is still possible for her old scar to tear - and that is the primary sign. I have heard it described as being stabbed with a butcher knife - so it will be very obvious.
