Does hair conditioner make your hair oily?

I use a really lovely shampoo from my hairdresser and a conditioner to match - my daughter has really long hair. I always thought you put the shampoo on the top of your head, massage it in and let the water rinse it out down your hair, then you only put conditioner on the ends of your hair where it needs it and then wash it out? If you put it on the top of your head won't it mix with the natural oils in your hair and tend to look a little oily? My daughter has really long hair and I told her not to put it on top of her head - maybe I'm wrong... what works well for you?

The right kind of conditioner will not make your hair look oily. It is important that your hair is moisturized from root to tip, it makes it easier to manage (combing/brushing, etc). While the roots may not need a deep conditioning treatment, unless your hair is particularly oily it should not hurt to condition your whole head of hair.

Instead of asking, you should experiment by conditioning your full head and seeing how it looks afterward. Everyones hair is different, and if it looks greasy then you should probably try a lighter conditioner. I would suggest experimenting- nothing can give you a better answer than personal experience. You might love the way your hair looks and feels fully conditioned!

My personal favorite shampoo/conditioners are Infusium 23 brand, they condition really well and never make my hair look greasy.

Is it possible to have dry and oily scalp? What do I do?

My scalp can have little to mid size white flakes fall, it can get red and itchy and scab up. If I don't wash everyday, my hair looks oily pretty quick. I think maybe I should try the olive oil treatments, etc. I use dandruff shampoos and the conditioners.and sometimes moisturizing shampoos and conditioners, like Pantene.

problem is not really in the shampoos you are using, but the method you use to wash your hair. i have the exact same issue. to start, i use head and shoulders shampoo, and either dove or pantene conditioner. when shampooingg, make sure you put the shampoo only on the scalp and massage it in the roots of your hair. the shampoo that falls naturally on the rest of the hair will suffice. rinse. when you condition, do the opposite. NEVER EVER put conditioner on your scalp or the roots of your hair...that's where the oily part comes from. just apply on the rest of your hair and brush it throuhg with a comb or your fingers, and leave it on for five to ten minutes. rinse thoroughly. after a couple of times, you will notice the difference. now, you shouldn't wash your hair everyday. it rips out all the essential oils in your hair, shocking it, and it starts OVERproducing oil. Start with every other day, and then move to every two days. it will suck at first, but then it will get better.
