College Problems... what to do with wavy hair?

Okay, So I have medium length, wavy brown hair. Every day, I've become accustomed to waking up extra-early in order to shower-dry-straighten my hair. I've grown up despising my natural hair because I NEVER know what to do with wavy hair (other than put it up). I'm going to college, where I'll have no time to sit and straighten every day. I'd LOVE to have that perfectly styled hollywood wavy hair. But I've tried all sorts of products that leaves my hair greasy or flat on top - big on the bottom. Any ideas to achieve a nice look with my wavy hair?

Ok what you schold do is after a shower get some curling mousee or gel or whatever. You scrunch your wet hair together. Put your head upsidedown and grab a handful of hair when you have your prouduct in it and then scrunch it to your head. This usually forms really cute curls. After spray your hair with some mega hold hair spray. This looks really cute with a side part too!

What can I eat to prevent premature greying?

Eating seafood is possibly one of the best things you can eat to promote all-over hair health. It is rich in zinc, iodine and protein, which are excellent for the hair. So if you enjoy seafood, make it a point to have fish several times a week. Remember that eating canned fish will not give you the same benefits as eating freshly cooked fish. If you don?t eat fish, consider fish-oil supplements.

Iron is good for hair and is found in dark green vegetables, meat and some pulses. If you are unsure about whether you are getting enough iron, include an iron supplement every once in a while in your diet. Remember that too many iron supplements can be bad for you. Women lose iron while menstruating, so perhaps during or after your cycle you can have iron-fortified supplements for a few days.

Eating foods rich in Vitamins B and C will ensure that your hair stays strong, does not break easily, and does not grey early. Pork, vegetables, whole grains, wheat germ, soymilk are all rich sources of Vitamin B, while citrus fruits are excellent sources of Vitamin C. Eating adequate Vitamin C helps increase absorption of iron. Try and have a glass of orange juice daily.

What oil can I apply to my hair?

Rosemary oil is believed to gradually darken grey hair over a period of time. Soak rosemary leaves along with a few basil (tulsi) leaves, in jojoba oil, for a period of four weeks. Massage your scalp and hair with this oil (after warming it up).

Most oils are not easily absorbed by the hair, which is why you need to leave oil on for at least forty-five minutes. It helps greatly if you steam your hair after applying oil.

Boil dried amla pieces in coconut oil until the pieces turn black and the oil darkens. Apply this oil to the hair. It strengthens hair and prevents greying.

Boil tealeaves in water and rinse your hair with this liquid 20-30 times. Then, leave on for 15-20 minutes before the final rinse.

What else can I do to promote hair health and delay greying?

Washing your hair with very hot water or using hair-dryers excessively weaken roots, and may lead to premature greying. When using a hair-dryer, take care not to point it to your scalp. Similarly, try and wash your hair with cool or lukewarm water.

Will Yoga help?

Inverted yoga poses bring a rush of blood to the scalp. This stimulates circulation and enhances hair health. Do the following poses regularly:

When you wash your hair, keep switching from hot water to cold water.

Comb your hair regularly. A hundred strokes every night should do the trick. If your hair is curly, use a wide toothed comb.

1. Take 100 gms of curd. Add about 1 gm of black pepper to it. Mix it well and apply it evenly on the hair and scalp. Keep it for an hour and then wash with warm water and mild shampoo. The beauty of the method lies in its simplicity and the fact that it is free, needs very little time and has absolutely no side-effects. Regular use brings back lost color. The new hair that grows back is also colored and not white. You need to fold both your palms inwards and place the fingernails of both hands against each other. Then with regular swift motions, rub them against each other. This rubbing procedure increases the blood flow to the scalp and helps in strengthening the roots. It is simple and can be done anywhere anytime. Do it for about 5-7 minutes twice a day. It is tried and tested and is guaranteed to show results. It is well popularized by naturopaths and ayurvedic experts in India. You need to be patient though. You will begin to notice a difference in about a month and by the end of 6 months you will se remarkable improvements in your hair.
3. Make a paste of gooseberries and mango seeds. Apply this onto the hair and scalp and leave on for some time before washing off. When done at regular intervals, this helps delay greying.
4. Make a paste of henna in an iron vessel and leave overnight. Also add some walnut pulp in the morning. Apply this on the hair and make a neat bun. Leave for 1 - 2 hours or till it dries. Gently and carefully wash off. Apart from preventing early greying, it also adds a beautiful red tinge to the hair. It is completely natural and harmless. It also conditions hair.
5. Boil tea leaves in water. Strain and let it cool down. Mix two teaspoonfuls of salt into it and apply to hair and scalp. Wash after an hour with plain water. This process when done once in 10 days can prevent graying.
