Med Women
What are the risks of women taking the drug Uroxatral?
My doc gave it to me to help pass a kidney stone, but the articals about it all say "women should not take it", but nothing says WHY women shouldn't take it. It says its to help male prostate issues, to relax the urinary tract muscles to make it easier to urinate. I really need to know what is the risk of me, a woman, taking this med.

Ask your Doctor why it was given to you if it is not supposed to be taken by women and get another Doctors opinion. Make sure you drink at least eight 8oz glasses of water or more a day to help it pass.
Have you read "Water: For Health, for Healing, for Life: You're Not Sick, You're Thirsty! "(Paperback) by F. Batmanghelidj and he has other books about why water is so important.

Engineering thermodynamics is probably a pre-req for some biology class require for pre-med. There were a lot of girls in my Bio classes–about 60% female–and a LOT of them were pre-med. Women can be smart, but some options seem more interesting or socially acceptable. Medical Doctors go through more school and almost as much math as an engineer, but the math isn’t as applicable or diverse–it’s just through calculus 3 or differential equations or something if I’m not mistaken–and they apply it differently: rather than using physics and calculus to determine some substance’s conductivity, they are calculating the toxicity of a substance ingested by an X-pound male…etc.
I am a transcriptionist and 4 of my 4 doctors would help you and not think you are another hysterical woman. Your doctor may surprise you with his understanding. If not, you need to find someone else. Your problems are in my transcription EVERY DAY, so before you even get there they have probably already heard it from someone else. It is nothing to be ashamed of. Be honest with him and don't abuse your medication. It is tough with all the things going on in our lives and reaching out for help is absolutely okay. Most doctors are sympathetic, understanding and willing to help you.
