Why do manufacturers, stores, and service establishments offer coupons or rebates?
Are all coupons and rebates always a good deal for the consumer?
There are many reasons for coupons/rebates. Some are: the company has product left it wats to get rid of, they bring you into the store and you may buy something else, with rebates 2/3 of people do not redeem them (but the company still looks good), the packaging to SEND you said discounts is advertising for the company, and you are more likely to shop at stores (whether you have a coupon or not) where you have gotten coupons, discounts, or deals before, and redeeming any discounts means you are shopping at the store at least once every time, and people are more likely to go back to places they are familiar with. Sheets? Better get those at bed Bath and beyond- I was in there once when I had a coupon and I'm scared to go to Target because I've never been in there..
Coupons/rebates are not always a good deal. Often, places purposely overprice their items in order to GIVE a discount. Infomercials are great examples. They really want to sell their product to you for $19.95. And they will- no matter what. But if they say, "Well, it's $50, but we're selling it for 19.95," you think entirely differently about the price. Oh my God, that is more than HALF OFF! And in stores, it gets you feeling anxious to buy items that are marked down before others do. Also, it is great for the store to have lots of sales and "30% off" stickers everywhere. If, when you went into GAP, everything was COVERED in marked-down clearance, and there were "40%" and "70%" percent specials, and you were ALWAYS getting free offers in the mail...(whether all the prices were the exact same or not), you are more likely to at least ENTER the store a substantially more number of times. Every time you go to the mall, you'll say, "better stop in that store- see what they have."
Also, companies know exactly how many of their offers (coupons or rebates) will be redeemed. They accurately predict what it will cost the company, and they know how much it will boost their sales and exposure. Think about all the people who go to buy a sweater only to realize they forgot the coupons or it is expired? They buy the sweater anyway because they don't want to look bad and they DID go through all the trouble picking out the right size. And they more than likely also found a belt and jacket to buy, too.

What is the profit in offering free stuff coupons ?
Some manufacturers offer free coupons like free print, free sugar
free etc, how do they make profit out of it?
They don't. In fact it is extremely expensive to do that. What they are hoping is, you like what you got for free, and will be willing to BUY it next time. In many company's it's very successful.
