How much should it cost to replace a h2o pump in a 2004 vs passat wagon (1.8 ltr)?

i noticed my car started to overheat about 5-10 minutes after i revved it really high trying to pass someone up. my mechanic kept the car almost a full week, and says it is the water pump. i know the pump is only $90.00, and i know the front of the car has to be dismantled, but geesh! my mechanic wants to charge me over $800.00!!!! meanwhile, a mechanic that is out of reach (b/c my car is overheating) is willing to do it for about $600.00. this is why people don't trust mechanics - they really overcharge a lot of times.

What is the odometer reading at? If it is at 65-70K and the timing belt hasn't been replaced you might as well replace that with the water pump, the rollers, tensioner, thermostat, and coolant, since they have to get in there anyway. He is about right. Adding the timing belt replacement will be an extra $4-500. Cheap insurance that goes a long way.

97 suburban fuel pump problems?

I have a 97 gmc suburban 454 vortex, 7.4 ltr engine, I was told that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. We had a problem with our truck idle. It wouldn't go over 10 mph, rough idling, & not getting fuel to the engine. I took it into a mechanic that did a fuel pressure test, scan, maf sensor inspection, etc. They said that we needed a new fuel pump. We replaced the fuel pump, strainer, & fuel filter. Now it won't start at all. Help!!

Something is loose or not connected.

When you wired the new pump to the existing sending unit, did you reverse the polarity of the pump? Or did you purchase a complete unit?

If I remember correctly, you cannot reverse the hoses on the sending unit, but I could be worng on this one.

Make sure the plug on top of the sending unit is in good.

For the fun of it, check the fuse associated with the pump (I don't have a specific # for you right now but could look one up if necessary). Check the relay as well...

It sounds like something was messed up or not completed during the swap. Did you put fuel back into the tank after it was replaced (assuming the tank was drained before removal)?
