Just Stop Gray
How to stop an african gray from screaming...........?
I have a 3 yr. old female african gray, and sometimes she makes the awfulest screeching noise. It sounds like a gym teacher blowing his whistle at full force! When she does this, I just ignore her. I read that to stop this behavior, to make her fly around a bit, and this does work, but only temporarily. I understand that she needs to screech a bit, but when she makes this sound, she does it over and over and over, and it is piercing! I don't see anything that triggers this screeching, she may do it at any given time. I had a male gray before, and he never made such a loud sound....any suggestions?
Do NOT cover your birds. This will actually encourage the behavior. The sound she is making is something she has picked up and has found that it gets a reaction(good or bad) out of you. Redirecting the behavior usually has the best results. Grey's are not usually "screamers", and this isn't a scream, just a mimicked sound that she knows gets attention.
When she makes the sound, immediately change the subject. Tell her "hello" or a favorite word she will repeat. Ask her to do a favorite trick. etc When she repeats the word or trick offer a dab of peanut better, or a raisin. And praise her at the same time. Eventually with patience(and sometimes ear plugs) the sound will stop. Patience, structure, understanding and love will do the trick. Good Luck!

How to I get my African grey to stop biting?
I just got a African Grey and shes 2 years old. The owner was a man. ( His wife didn't like the bird.) So now she likes men... Is there any way to tame her? If you know of any free websites or videos that would help please let me know. She is my bird but she only like my husband. She will let me hold her some times. And she will not let either of us take her off her cage to put her back inside. If you know any thing anoute this PLEASE reply,
My boyfriend and I were looking into purchasing an African grey, The lady at our local pet store has raised birds for years, A few tips she told us on how to train the bird is when they bite blow in their face she said it doesn't harm them but it seems to help break them from it. Also another thing is They really don't like feeling small. When the birds in the store get out of hand or want to bite she puts them down on the floor. It seemed to do the trick because the bird wanted right back up to her level and was as sweet as could be after that. Another thing she said helps is Never put a bird at eye level with you it makes them feel higher in power, Not sure if it will work however all the birds that are permanent residents there seem to be very well behaved and she has personally trained all of them. Any customer and go in and the birds seem to take right to them.. AS the above answers said as well is research.research research. You can find anything on the net so use it to your advantage
