A question about hair loss treatments?

I'm 18 and showing signs of hair loss, my dad has a large bald spot and I can tell I'm heading in the same direction.

That didn't really answer the question, I want to know if because I've caught onto it fairly early there's a better chance of stopping and reversing it. I'm not too keen on Propecia, it sounds like there's too many risky side effects to it.
