Hair Growth Pregnancy Gender
Asked a question about leg hair growth...and an answer made me think! A funny way to tell gender? lol?
I had a boy for my first pregnancy...and my leg hair didn't stop growing. This time we don't know what we're having, but my leg hair is not growing at all.
The person who answered my question had a boy and leg hair, and this time having a girl with smoother legs.
So, if you remember...did you have smooth legs with your girls? Hairy with the boys? Would be interesting if it worked that way! lol
Oh, defiantly an interesting theory hun! My leg hair has not grown much throughout my pregnancy and have not had to shave that often and Im having a girl! You may be onto something! Hehe!

Alopecia Hair Loss- A Devastating Loss To Women
Alopecia hair loss is something that both genders may have to deal with. This disease was a man's disease for a long time but lately women have been plagued with loss of hair as well. While bald men are totally acceptable in today's society balding women are thought of as being sickly. Women are supposed to have long beautiful hair and if they are not they are often thought of as less of a woman.
The male testosterone hormone is the one that was thought to be the cause of baldness. Since women also have a small amount of testosterone doctors thought that is what the cause of female pattern baldness was. They recently found that this is not true. DHT is a substance that is found in the oil glands of hair follicles and is made from converted testosterone. DHT tends to shrink follicles and prevents hair from growing.
Men bald in areas. It may be at the tip top of the head or near the hair line. Women bald different. They do not bald in one spot but all over. Their natural part may become very wide or the area at the front of the head at the bang line may widen. It may be that the scalp shines through the little hair they still have. There are some women that bald more at the top back of the head as well.
Some conditions that can start alopecia in women are ovarian cysts, pregnancy or the time right after, use of birth control, and menopause. Women who have the condition of polycystic ovarian syndrome can experience alopecia too. If your life is so stressful it causes physical problems it can also cause alopecia. This condition is caused by heredity but contrary to popular belief it does not just have to do with the mother's side of the family.
Over 20 million women have hair loss problems and many of them, almost half, are under the age of 40. If you are a woman with a balding head you are not the only one out there. Women must be careful because this condition can cause mental problems such as thinking you are not worth your while or causing depression. Hair loss in women is reversible where as in men it is not always the case.
The first thing you must do is to find a doctor that will treat alopecia. Do not go to a regular family doctor or a gynecologist for this. You need a dermatologist because they are the most adept at treating this condition. You can check out the website of the American Academy of Dermatology to find a doctor in your area. Note that many health insurance policies will not pay for this type of treatment. Make sure the doctor knows when the problem started and how your hair started to fall out. They need to know other diseases you may have like diabetes, thyroid, and others and they will need to know what medications you regularly take. They will also need to know if you have been pregnant recently, had a hysterectomy, or have gone through menopause.
The doctor will do a simple blood test. This is the only way to diagnose alopecia. The blood work must test a variety of things including hormone production, thyroid function, the amount of iron in the blood, Blood count and other things. From these tests the doctor will be able to proceed with a treatment that will work much better than those things you can get in a grocery store to grow hair.
Minoxidil, used for both genders, has been available since the 1980's. Another product that works well for alopecia in women is Tricomin Therapy Spray. A shampoo that brings back circulation to the scalp thus helping more hair to grow is called Nizoral and it must be used three times a week. This has been proven to work when using other therapies as well. Antiandrogen may be prescribed and this is rubbed on the head. It also comes in pill form. Use either one with one of the above growth simulators and you may grow hair back you have lost.
There are support groups out there for alopecia patients and you may be able to understand how to deal with hair loss better through them. Remember, ladies, this disease is reversible for you so you have the upper hand. In many cases your hair will grow back either with the help of a doctor or by itself. It is just the part where you loose it that you have to deal with and that might take a while before it does grow back.
Make sure to have support from your coworkers and family by educating them on alopecia and making sure they understand how to deal with it right along with you.
