Hair Growth Lotion
I'm using Doo Gro growth lotion in my hair. I noticed it has mineral oil in it is that bad?
Will it slow down my hair growth? I just spent 6 bucks on it and I really don't want to have to get rid of it.
I want to get dreads before we go back to school in August. Right now I would say I have half an inch maybe 3/4 an inch of hair after a month. I can twist it around my finger and it'll stay twisted.
Do you think I'll have enough for the dreads by August?
You only need 2 inches of hair to start dreads, they usually start them with comb coils, twists, and etc. About 2.5 to 3 months of growth should be all you need to start dreading your hair. You will have more than enough by August.
Mineral oil is a cheap filler oil companies use in their products that coat and clog the hair follicle and shaft. Mineral oil does not absorb as fast or as good as other oils do, stunting your hair growth. It also coats the shaft of the hair which makes it harder for your hair to feel/be moisturized because no other oils can get through to absorb into the scalp(follicle) and shaft(hair strand).
Ginseng Wonder 8 Oil(drugstores about 5 dollars) is a really good oil/moisturizer to put in your hair. It can be used on hair and body and contains no mineral oil. You could also make your own spray if your willing to buy the oils.
Try rubbing either rosemary, tea tree, or peppermint oil into your scalp a couple nights a week to stimulate blood flow which aids in hair growth.
Personally, the Doo Gro oils consistency is to watery for me to even consider it an oil. It also feels really heavy, oils should be light.

Is pink lotion bad for your hair?
Is pink lotion bad? I used it for the first time to get waves. I heard it slows your hair growth, clogs pores, takes the minerals out of your hair, etc.
i think Pink might contain petrolatum. try finding a water-based moisturizer (h2o in the 1st 3 ingredients) that does not contain petrolatum, mineral oil, sulfate, or alcohol. Mane-n-Tail Moisturizer-Texturizer Conditioner can be used as a moisturizer and it's good at bringing out the wavy texture in my hair.
