Qusetion about hair growth on african americans?
Is this an accurate statement?:
Black men generally grow afro-shape hair,
while black women grow hair straight down their backs.
Is that true? Cause that's pretty much what I've observed.
Why would gender affect hair growth on african americans?
On white people, gender doesn't seem to have an impact on hair growth.....white men grow straight hair down their backs just like women do........
So what's up with gender affecting hair growth on blacks?
Black women chemically straighten their hair by using a relaxer perm, which is a permanent chemical.
Black men usually don't put relaxers in their hair but instead wear their hair natural. Most black women don't wear their hair natural. You might see a few black women from time to time with afro's. But it doesn't even have to be an afro because if her natural hair is long enough then it will fall down. Really, the only way to tell is natural hair is not silky and smooth like straight hair. It's texture is coarse and usually thick, and can be extremely curly. Natural hair doesn't shine and looks way shorter than it actually is (imagine having hair that's down your back, but looks like a 3 inch afro!). Relaxed hair is thinner, smoother, shinnier, and silkier. And, even those who do wear their hair natural will flat iron it.
