Hair Fibres what happens to the hair fibers when hair is dyed. How do the hair fiber’s structure change?”?
the hair is made up of three layers cuticle-outer cortex-middle medulla -inner when the hair is colored the cuticle layer(which is like scales) is raised and the and the color is deposited in the cortex. it takes awhile for the cuticle to shut again. unless the the color is temporary the hair will be slightly damaged from the developer( what is mixed with the color to lift the cuticle)
The book deals with the physical and chemical modification of natural and synthetic fibres for technical applications. Natural fibres and synthetic fibres/ filaments are often inadequate to be used in technical textiles. The high level of moisture absorption of natural fibres, poor wettability by non-polar plastics, and insufficient adhesion between untreated fibres and the polymer matrix, result in poor properties in composites. Synthetic fibres often lack the required mechanical and thermal properties to be used for technical applications. The book will thus encompass methods to physically and chemically modify fibres for technical applications.
Textiles are ubiquitous materials that many of us take for granted in our everyday lives. We rely on our clothes to protect us from the environment, for modesty, to enhance our appearance and reflect our personality. Beyond these traditional applications, high-performance fibres have been specifically developed for more demanding roles in protective garments, industrial work-wear, car tyres, parachutes and artificial arteries. This is the only book to describe the chemistry of textile fibres at a level appropriate for `A` level students and first-year undergraduates following courses in textile science and technology. Readers with a background in chemistry and an interest in the principles of functional fibre development will also find it to be of value. The book explains the characteristics required for polymers to be fibre-forming, the general physical properties needed from textile fibres, and the chemistry of important natural and synthetic fibres. The book also deals with the essential chemistry of "high-performance" fibres that possess functionalities beyond those of materials traditionally used for apparel. Later chapters describe methods of fibre enhancement and fibre blending.
Natural fibres are becoming increasingly popular for use in industrial applications, providing sustainable solutions to support technical innovation. These versatile, natural based materials have applications in a wide range of industries, from textiles and consumer products to the automotive and construction industries. Industrial Applications of Natural Fibres examines the different steps of processing, from natural generation, fibre separation and fibre processing, to the manufacturing of the final product. Each step is linked to fibre properties and characterization, highlighting how different fibres influence the product properties through a discussion of their chemical and structural qualities. Considering the value-added chain from natural generation to final product, with emphasis on quality management, this book reviews the current research and technical applications of natural fibres. Topics covered include: • Introduction to the chemistry and biology of natural fibres • Economic aspects of natural fibres • Vegetable fibres • Animal fibres • Testing and Quality Management • Applications: Current and Potential Industrial Application of Natural Fibres will be a valuable resource for scientists in industry and academia interested in the development of natural based materials and products. It is particularly relevant for those working in chemical engineering, sustainable chemistry, agricultural sciences, biology and materials sciences.
The focus of this book lies at the meeting point of electromagnetic waveguides and photonic crystals. Although these are both widely studied topics, they have been kept apart until recently. The purpose of the first edition of this book was to give state-of-the-art theoretical and numerical viewpoints about exotic fibres which use ?photonic crystal effects? and consequently exhibit some remarkable properties.Since that first edition, photonic crystal fibres have become an important and effective optical device. In this second edition, the description of the theoretical and numerical tools used to study these fibres is enhanced, whilst up-to-date information about the properties, applications and fabrication of these fibres is added.
