C(t) = 25.2.(1 + 0.15)^t
where t is the number of years since 1991 (ie t = 0 for 1991), then
1(a) the initial value C(0) is 25.2
1(b) the growth factor per annum is 1.15
1(c) the annual percentage increase is 0.15 x 100 = 15%
2) The number of computers predicted for the year 2000 is 25.2 x (1.15)^9 = 88.7 per 100 people.
Comment: Exponential or power law relationships of this type generally only fit the observed data for conditions where the market penetration is low. As the number of items per household increases towards unity, market saturation almost inevitably appears, and the market growth factor drops away. The usual response from manufacturers to counter this includes improvements in product performance, reducing the price, broadening the market base and incorporating built-in obsolescence in the product design.
