Is it dangerous to take a lot of herb capsules at the same time?

I'm buying Gotu Kola, Ginseng, Rosemary, and Bacopa capsules to have a natural remedy for my ADD. Is it safe to take them all at the same time? Just wondering.

I would take one at a time after do the research looking for warnings on each one. Gotu Kola has 12 % caffeine in it so it may not be good for you even though it may have good effect too. Ginseng makes you keep glycogen in muscles so it can lower your blood sugar levels and in small amounts it may increase blood pressure. I wouldn't recommend that for ADD either. Bacopa can lower blood pressure too much and it's safety isn't clear.

There are herbs or supplements that may help, but thorough research is needed for safety and effectiveness. You age is important too. If under 18 I would look for food sources. Fiber, good vegetable oils in diets, fish and maybe light supplements like B-Complex and whey protein isolate. This all helps to balance hormones, slow absorption of sugars and reduce stress.

Taking them all at once,in my opinion, shouldn't be done unless you have taken them separately 1st and slowly tried them together.

Edit: What's important to is a food diary and a diary on moods and ADD episodes. This way you can find any correlations between certain foods and reactions.

You may also have Celiac disease which is an allergy to gluten, but would have to ask a doc to be tested. Celiac is may be linked to malabsorption syndrome too. This is where the fats from your food coat the small intestine blocking nutrients form getting absorbed.

There can be many links to the cause, but just taking herbs blindly is not the answer in my opinion.

Edit: dave is biased by implying that regulation makes something safe. More people have died from regulated drugs than unregulated supplements, but he will never tell you that!

Nature's Herbs Wild Countryside Gotu Kola herb is harvested from its natural wild environment in nutrient-rich marshlands of India. Gotu Kola is widely used in many parts of the ayurvedic system of traditional medicine. Used throughout the Indian subcontinent as a poultice for skin diseases and the healing of wounds. It also has an ancient reputation for aiding mental clarity and lowering blood pressure. In fact, Gotu kola is not related to kola nut and contains no caffeine. There are three main chemical constituents in Gotu kola. The first is asiaticoside, which is a triterpene glycoside and classified as an antibiotic. It aids in wound healing and has been used in the treatment of leprosy and tuberculosis in the Far East. The second constituent is a pair of chemicals, brahmoside and brahminoside, which are saponin glycosides. These are diuretic in nature and have a slightly sedative action in large doses. Finally, there is madecassoside, a glycoside that is a strong anti-inflammatory agent. The plant is also a source of Vitamin K, magnesium, calcium and sodium. Gotu Kola has been found to have significant results in healing of skin, other connective tissues, lymph tissue, blood vessels, and mucous membranes. Researchers have found that Gotu kola contains several glycosides that exhibit wound healing and anti-inflammatory activities and that asiaticosides stimulate the formation of lipids and proteins necessary for healthy skin. Used as an infusion, decoction, extract, tincture and poultice. Used throughout the Indian subcontinent as a poultice for skin diseases and the healing of wounds. It also has an ancient reputation for aiding mental clarity and lowering blood pressure. Gotu kola is an outstandingly important medicinal herb that is widely used in the Orient and is becoming increasingly popular in the West. Its Indian name is 'Brahmi' which means 'bringing knowledge of the Supreme Reality' and it has long been used there medicinally and as an aid to meditation. It is a useful tonic and cleansing herb for skin problems and digestive disorders. In India it is chiefly valued as a revitalizing herb that strengthens nervous function and memory. The whole plant is alterative, cardio-depressant, hypotensive, weakly sedative and tonic. It is a rejuvenating diuretic herb that clears toxins, reduces inflammations and fevers, improves healing and immunity, improves the memory and has a balancing effect on the nervous system. It has been suggested that regular use of the herb can rejuvenate the nervous system and it therefore deserves attention as a possible cure for a wide range of nervous disorders including multiple sclerosis. Recent research has shown that gotu kola reduces scarring, improves circulatory problems in the lower limbs and speeds the healing process. It is used internally in the treatment of wounds, chronic skin conditions (including leprosy), venereal diseases, malaria, varicose veins, ulcers, nervous disorders and senility. Caution should be observed since excess doses cause headaches and transient unconsciousness. Externally, the herb is applied to wounds, haemorrhoids and rheumatic joints. Hydrocotyle asiatica, listed by Grieve and King's, is sometimes listed as a synonym, but Oriental medical references say that Hydrocotyle is actually a different and medicinally inferior plant. Centella's saponins (including asiaticoside, madecassoside and madasiatic acid) seem to reduce scar formation in wound healing by inhibiting the production of connective tissue as they simultaneously close the wound. Centella has been experimentally shown to be 'effective in venous insufficiency, reducing ankle edema, foot swelling, capillary filtration rate and improving microcirculatory parameters.' The herb is very good news for varicose veins. This demonstrable improvement in microcirculatory efficiency may explain Gotu Kola's ancient reputation as an aid to mental clarity, high blood pressure, fever, rheumatism and mental disorders.
