Fast Hair Growth African Americans

does braiding your hair helps it grow? african american women plz help!?

okay i get perms very six weeks but since its the summer im not getting a perm til late august ( my hair grow a tad bit faster with no perm for a while) Now if i braid my hair with no weave ( natural) liike every 2 weeks or w.e. will it increase the rate of hair growth.....also i have african american hair

No. braids themselves do not cause your hair to grow. Your hair will grow no matter what you do to it as long as you don't damage the hair follicles in your scalp.

It does help your hair to grow by keeping your hands out of it for a while. Basically when you have braids, you can't brush your hair, relax it it, etc. so it allows your hair to rest in it's natural state.

Relaxers don't stop hair growth (if they did then my hair wouldn't be down my back nor would my sister's) but they do cause breakage if you leave them on for too long which I see a lot of aa women doing. A relaxer should NOT make your hair stick straight. If you're leaving it in until it's straight instead of just relaxing the curl a bit then you are over processing your hair.

I do think that you will have some breakage due to not having a relaxer for a while because your hair is going to have two different textures in one strand and the new growth is going to be stronger than the old relaxed ends. It happens to everyone who's had a relaxer and let's it grow out so the best thing to do is to use super hydrating shampoos and conditioners and leave-in conditioners to keep your hair healthy and not dry so it doesn't break as much. But there still will be breakage, ESPECIALLY if the braids are too tight.

Happy braiding!

African Americans and AIDS (Hardcover)

African Americans and AIDS (Hardcover)

$108.49

The HIV/AIDS epidemic is burgeoning among African American men and women. Despite comprising only 13% of the population, 50% of new HIV diagnoses in 2004 were among African Americans. Among women and men who have sex with men (MSM), African Americans are grossly disproportionately affected by this epidemic, and this trend shows no sign of abating. This book seeks to explore some of the contextual factors that contribute to this disparity as well as ways to intervene to slow the growth of the epidemic in the U.S.This volume will focus on the history and context of HIV/AIDS in African Americans and interventions targeting specific subpopulations including adolescents, heterosexual men and women, men who have sex with men, incarcerated populations, and injection drug users. Context chapters will focus on specific contextual and structural issues related to HIV/AIDS transmission and prevention in African Americans including disparities in incarceration, racism, economic issues and substance abuse. Intervention chapters will focus on best-evidence and promising-evidence based interventions targeting HIV prevention in African Americans. These chapters will address the latest in intervention strategies, program evaluation, cost effectiveness and qualitative research methods and will include risk reduction, risk assessment, and testing and counseling.

African Americans on the Great Plains (Paperback)

African Americans on the Great Plains (Paperback)

$36.2

Until recently, histories of the American West gave little evidence of the presence—let alone importance—of African Americans in the unfolding of the western frontier. There might have been a mention of Estevan, slavery, or the Dred Scott decision, but the rich and varied experience of African Americans on the Great Plains went largely unnoted. This book, the first of its kind, supplies that critical missing chapter in American history. Originally published over the span of twenty-five years in Great Plains Quarterly, the essays collected here describe the part African Americans played in the frontier army and as homesteaders, community builders, and activists. The authors address race relations, discrimination, and violence. They tell of the struggle for civil rights and against Jim Crow, and they examine African American cultural growth and contributions as well as economic and political aspects of black life on the Great Plains. From individuals such as “Pap” Singleton, Era Bell Thompson, Aaron Douglas, and Alphonso Trent; to incidents at Fort Hays, Brownsville, and Topeka; to defining moments in government, education, and the arts—this collection offers the first comprehensive overview of the black experience on the Plains.

African Americans of New Orleans, Louisiana (Paperback)

Enslaved Africans and free people of color of Louisiana deserve the title of "Founding Fathers" just as much as the French, the Spanish, and the Americans. In spite of their subjugated role as slaves, African Americans of Louisiana, and subsequently New Orleans, were contributors to the success of the state and the city far beyond their role within the labor force. Imported into the Louisiana Territory by John Law`s Company of the Indies, enslaved Africans, fed on a pound of corn a day, gave birth to American figures of the 19th and 20th centuries. Mahalia Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Homer Plessy, Marie Laveau, Buddy Bolden, Julies Lion, Alice Dunbar-Nelson, the fighting men of the Louisiana Native Guard, Ernest "Dutch" Morial, and many other African Americans contributed to the growth and development of New Orleans. Every African American citizen of New Orleans is intrinsically connected to the city`s cultural and political landscape.Turry Flucker is the division director of the civil rights branch of the Louisiana State Museum and is a graduate of Tougaloo College. Flucker resides in New Orleans. Phoenix Savage, a native of Philadelphia, maintains an active exhibition schedule as a sculptres and currently lives in Atlanta. The Images of America series celebrates the history of neighborhoods, towns, and cities across the country. Using archival photographs, each title presents the distinctive stories from the past that shape the character of the community today. Arcadia is proud to play a part in the preservation of local heritage, making history available to all.

As a result of the slave trade, through which the vast majority of African immigrants were involuntarily transported to America, the history of African Americans is one rooted in controversy and strife. After the Civil War when Abraham Lincoln abolished the institution of slavery, African Americans began the struggle for civil rights and social and cultural equality in the United States, a struggle that continues to this day despite the gains of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. The election of Barack Obama in 2008 to the American presidency is hopeful evidence, however, of the amalgamation of African American interests in the country`s political system. The African Americans explores this particular ethnic group, presenting a remarkable array of valuable information, including entertainment, work, education, and the contributions and conflicts of African Americans to society. This informative new volume details their social history, customs, and traditions and is enhanced by further reading lists, box features, black-and-white photographs, and more.

From pamphlets denouncing slavery to boycotts of Hollywood, African Americans have fought for adequate representations of themselves in the mass media industries of the United States. This book provides readers with an interdisciplinary overview of the past, present, and future of African Americans in U.S. media and the ongoing project of gaining racial equality in media: a process which spans generations. Catherine Squires introduces the reader to the varied ways in which Black Americans have navigated cultural, political, and economic obstacles both to make their own media and to critique mainstream media. Synthesizing the work of social scientists, historians, cultural critics, as well as comments from audience members and media producers, African Americans and the Media gives readers a lively entry point to classic and contemporary studies of Black Americans and mass media. Across the chapters, readers follow African Americans` struggles to harness the power of print, broadcasting, film, and digital media, through five main themes which are woven through the book: representation, circulation, innovation, audience and responsibility. Taking in examples as diverse as Blaxploitation films, the work of 20th Century black activist journalists such as Ida B. Wells and A. Philip Randolph, and popular television such as The Cosby Show, this book will be essential reading for all students and scholars of media and communications and African American studies.

Homemade hair growth aide update

Why don't African American hair grow at the rate of a Caucasians?

It seems as if black people's hair can't grow like white people..Why is that? Caucasians seem to have faster growth and can keep long hair length, while it seems completely opposite with black people.

could be the breakage if you process your hair a lot. It also harder to see the growth of curly hair. I mean if you stretched out the curl (naturally) you will most likely see almost the same results
