"DANDRUFF" GOLD DIGGAZ!!!
I have an earring and am wondering if I have an infection?
I have had my ear pierced for nine years and have never had any problems. I bought an 18K white gold diamond earring exactly one year ago. Recently (within the past month) I've ntoiced that the back part of the hole has started to collect dead skin cells similar to that of dandruff. I can pick it off painlessly however ocassionally there is a colorless, odorless liquid that will come out as well. I am wondering if this is an infection and I need to get this treated. I am also wonderign if there's a specific method for cleaning an earring of it's calibur. I didn't mind using alcohol on my old earring since they weren't expensive but I want to be careful about the diamond earring I own now and not damage it in any way.
It's possible that you now may have an allergy to gold posts
or the back of your gold earring. But you need to remove it
and start keeping the hole disenfected with alcohol. Don't
worry about the earring for now. Give the situation a good
three days and look for change. If you have any good first
aid cream put a dot on the hole and rub it in. I've had a recent
flare up with a pair of antique gold earrings, I hadn't worn in
many years. And I started having a clear liquid and itching.
I cleaned the area back and front with alcohol and used some
1% cortesone. That usually will clear mine up and also stop
the itching in the process. You can buy the cortesone over
the counter with that weak of strength. It's the 2% you have
to get a perscription for.
Wait til all of the area returns to normal before re inserting
your earring. And if it flares up again, forget wearing gold and
look for a stud with a stainless steel post instead. They are
hyperallergenic and the safest to use. You may have to get
the diamond set onto a stainless stud in order to wear it
again. Time will tell.
