Complex Volumizing
A question about water and shampoo?
Okay, so I've been living in this apartment complex I'm at now for a few months now, and I've having a problem with the water and my hair. I can't tell if the water is too hard, or if the building has a purifying system installed and the water is too soft. How will I know which is which? Also, where I used to live, all I ever used in my hair was shampoo, and I had all the lift, bounce, etc. I needed. However, where I'm at now, I find that my hair is always flat. I've tried using different shampoos, especially volumizing ones. However, the water leaves my hair really slick and tangeled and I guess dry.
Please help!
Shimmer,
Here are 2 products to try:
Matrix Amplify Root Lifting Spray. Even though you've tried another root lifting spray, give this one a shot. It's my HG hair product--you can get it at Target. Here's the trick to really making it work. After you spray it into your roots (and separate your hair into verticle sections to really get the spray in there), flip your head over and massage the spray into your roots while your head is upside down. I don't know why it works, but it does. Amplify also makes a volumizing shampoo & conditioner. I've never tried them, but their root spray is great, so I'd imagine that these would be as well. Swing by makeupalley.com to check out user reviews though.
Big Sexy Hair: It's impossible to have flat hair with this stuff. If the root lifting spray above doesn't work, the BSH mousse will really (really) amp up your volume. The only catch with this one is to watch how much you use on the humid days.
Ditch the Brilliant Brunette shampoos/conditioners--I've recently learned they do more harm than good to our bought-and-paid-for brunette color. It apparently is TOO harsh and strips it right out. Seems it's intended more for brunettes of the natural sort.
The best way to tell whether water is hard or soft is the soapy factor. Soap and toothpaste do not lather up as quickly in hard water as in soft. Hard water contains all manner of insoluble minerals. A list of these minerals includes sulfates, chlorides, iron and bicardonates.
Another way to tell if you water is hard is the deposit test. If you see white deposits on water pipes that have been in use for a while, you have hard water. The white deposit is limescale.
Drawbacks to Hard Water
Hard water is not a health risk, for the most part. There is some data which suggests hard water leads to a slightly greater risk of heart and blood disease then soft water.
On the other hand, soft water tends to corrode the inside of water pipes more than hard water. This is because soft water doesn't coat the pipes with limescale, which is a common minerals in hard water. This extra corrosion leads to higher levels of lead and cadmium in your drinking water, which carry their own health risks.
So the health concerns of hard or soft water tend to cancel one another out. Whatever risks are slight and fall on either side of the coin. If you determine you have hard water, there are few medical reasons to take steps. There are household reasons for the switching to soft water.
There are many differences in the household efficiency of hard and soft waters.
Pipes and Detergents
Also, hard water has minerals that eventually will clog pipes from one another. This means that pipes and septic systems will clog up and need more repairs when using hard water.
Hard water requires you to use more soap, laundry detergent and dish washer detergent. You might end up using twice as much of these for hard water.
Soap Scum
Combining hard water and soap creates a soap scum combined from magnesium and calcium. This scum is called "curd". When used to wash the human body, curd causes the blockage of pores and coating the body hair with a thin layer. Curd is insoluble, so that washing will not remove it.
Curd leads to skin irritation, rashes and dry, scaly skin. Bacterial growth is aided by this soap scum. Hard water is therefore not good for your skin.
The Sad Fact
About 85% of the tap water used in America can be described as hard. This is due to the fact that most American streams contain hard water. England has even harder water than America, while Canada has the softest water of the three.
New England, the Gulf Coast and the Pacific Northwest are the regions with the softest water in the United States. The American Southwest and the Plains States have the hardest waters in America.
Filters
If you have hard water and want to change, you can purchase a water softener. A water softener is a filter which removes the magnesium and calcium sediment from the water in an "ionic process". Basically, the filter removes ions of these minerals from the water.

CytoSport Monster Pump Review - Pre-workout Nitric Oxide Product
Please help, thinning hair--I'm so frustrated!?
Hi. I'm 32 and relatively healthy. I was taking a medication that I found out can cause hair to thin, and it did. I lost a guestimate of a third of my hair. I've been off the medication for 6 months and am noticing very little regrowth. What there is is brittle and wispy.
I've had bloodwork and only found a couple minor deficiencies, and have been correcting them with iron and b complex, along with a multi vitamin. I do take prescription Wellbutrin, but my doctor said and research shows it doesn't cause this.
What else can I be doing for this?! Vitamins, diet, heck, even rogaine if it actually works. And in the meantime let me know the most volumizing shampoo and conditioner you know.
Any advice is welcome as it is starting to become very upsetting ![]()
Thank you!
Herbal Essences Volumizing shampoo and conditioner worked for me. I have super-thin hair, and this stuff really worked!
