Black Hair Growth Braids
My Crazy Hair!!?
I'm African American, and I want my hair to grow longer, stronger, thicker and FAST!! I've tried a couple products but nothing seemed to work, it either dried my hair, or made it just yucky! Now we all know how stubborn black hair can be lol. Has anyone used the Profectiv Mega Growth Anti-Breakage Strengthening Pro Growth Sheen? Please someone help!! What should i do?? I usually have my hair in braids with extentions. And my hair is too jacked up, i would like to keep it braided atleast till it is longer and thicker
I had a patient at work the other night who had this same issue. She had extension pieces tied into the top of her hair (no glue/no braids) and she said she had been doing that for a while now to grow her own hair out which had been damaged by glued in extensions. She had lovely hair under neath and the fake hair was pretty too- nice big curls. Looked real to me. Anyway she said the big thing is not stretching your real hair or using a bunch of product in it. If you can manage that for a while it should grow out nicely. Also eat lots of nutrients and gelatin as it will help your hair grow healthier. Hope this helps you.

Black Hair question!!!?
I REALLY want to grow my hair out, I've been relaxing it for the last 9 or so monthes and it was looking great, except recently it started to break off around my edges-I think I know what I did wrong! But I know braids usually help with growth, do you think if I get my healthier in the next month (no relaxing) that braids will be the way to go....
PS-I'm hoping for tree braids, so if you have additional information please add as well:)
lol no i don't relax every month! I had my hair natural before that I relax my hair every 6-8 weeks if i don't stretch it....
Relaxers, themselves, contribute to breakage in MANY ways. Your hair will always be healthier in it's natural state because strong chemicals like relaxers weaken the hair by breaking down the hair's bonds, so relaxers make your hair more prone to breakage. If you continue to get relaxers then it's healthier for your hair and scalp if you can get fewer a year by stretching for as long as possible EVERY time between touch-ups.
Anyway, braids can help with growth as long as the braids aren't too tight, you don't leave the in longer than recommended, and you take care of your real hair while you have them. If you don't then you'll set yourself back by having breakage, matting, tangling, and in the case of tight braids, receding hairline and possible scalp damage, as well as hair breakage. Braids are a protective style and many people use them to grow out their hair because it keeps you from daily styling, which contributes to breakage.
